Your RV or travel trailer is more versatile than you might think it is. Not only is it a great vehicle for traveling, camping and recreation, but you can also use it even when you stay in town! One great way to put your RV to use in the off-season is at tailgating events. Your RV or travel trailer can serve as a cozy headquarters for a tailgating party where everyone can gather indoors and make use of your kitchen, bathroom and TV while enjoying the game. At Campers RV Center in Shreveport, we know what makes a great RV tailgating party. Follow this list of tips to make sure your next one is stellar!

Figure Out The Food

Plenty of delicious food is an essential part of a good tailgating party. Fortunately, your RV kitchen makes it even easier to make and store this food! You’ll want to prepare some things well in advance, but others could be fixed up while everyone else is arriving and setting up chairs. Use a slow cooker to prepare a batch of chili or some Vienna sausages in the morning and they’ll be hot and ready by the time the party starts. Cut up fruits and vegetables for snacks in the morning and store them in the fridge with their dips until the kickoff. Set up a grill outside your travel trailer for burgers and hot dogs, then have a table of all the fixings so everyone can customize their food.

Make Your RV Comfortable

People will likely spend a lot of time in your RV while the festivities are going on. Have the TV on and tuned to the game so people can watch it on the couch if they so desire. Set up some extra chairs inside, too. Tables and chairs outside will be great for everyone to sit and eat. During the early part of the season, your RV will be a welcome retreat from the warm sun, so keep the air conditioning cranked and run some fans. However, as autumn progresses, your RV will instead become a respite from the chill in the air, so you’ll want to have the heat on with some blankets handy for guests to wrap up in outside.

Set Up A Mobile Handwashing Station

To cut down on too much traffic in your RV bathroom, set up a handwashing station outside using a water cooler with a soap pump and paper towels. Make sure there’s a large basin underneath to catch the soapy water, which you could use to scrub your RV later!

Follow Good Safety Practices

You’ll want to keep yourself and your guests safe as part of your tailgating event. Keep fire extinguishers on hand, both inside and outside your RV or travel trailer, in case something catches on fire, inside or outside. Have a well-stocked first aid kit with medications including painkillers and antacids along with bandages, ointments and other supplies to treat minor injuries and illnesses. Part of keeping people happy is making sure no one is suffering from a headache during the event!

Decorate!

Making sure your party looks festive is another important aspect of a successful tailgating event. Use streamers or crepe paper in your team’s colors to decorate the inside and outside of your travel trailer. Hang up your team’s flag outside for the day and get a welcome mat of the team colors so everyone can wipe their feet on it. You can decorate cupcakes and other foods with team colors, too! Have some plastic bead necklaces on hand so everyone can show their team spirit.
