Prepping Bossier City Travel Trailer: Tires, Hitches, Lights

Jul. 11 2022 News By Campers RV Center

Ensuring your equipment and materials are prepared for any upcoming trip is important, and any travel trailer you're bringing along with you is a great example. The travel trailer will fill several roles on your trip, from storage to comfort and more, and simply making sure it's prepared for the needs you have is vital for a fun, enjoyable outing.

At Campers RV Center, we're happy to offer a wide variety of travel trailers, RVs and other options to clients throughout Bossier City, LA and nearby areas. Our service department is also here to assist you with any needs you may have in terms of upkeep to any vehicle or tow vehicle you purchase from us. Whether on your own or with the help of our service team, what are some simple areas to prepare with regard to your travel trailer ahead of any trip? This two-part blog series will go over several.

Tires

Both for the travel trailer itself and the towing vehicle that will be bringing it along, having the right tires is critical. This not only helps with easy travel but also safety on the roadways. If you're unsure about your current tires, our team can help you inspect and make determinations as needed before any trip.

In addition, you should be checking on the basic condition of the tires. If they have any cracks, bulges or other issues, it's time for new ones. Likewise, the tread should be thick and even still – if it's not, you'll want to invest in new tires as well.

Hitches and Couplers

The hitch and coupler system is what actually attaches the travel trailer to the towing vehicle. This needs to be in good, secure condition before any trip for obvious reasons. If you're unsure about this system and how it's currently functioning, our team can take a look and make sure all is well – we can also do this as part of a general RV inspection if desired.

Lights and Controls

It's also very important that your travel trailer properly displays lights and controls for both the towing vehicle and for braking while on the road. These should be tested well before any trip to ensure they're functioning as needed.

On the travel trailer itself, all brake lights and turn signals should work. The hitch receiver also needs a working light, and this is something you can test easily enough by having someone stand behind the trailer while you turn on the signal. If the light doesn't go on, it's time for a new bulb or other issue that needs addressing.

In part two of our series, we'll go over some systems checks and other areas to be looking into here. For more on how to prepare your travel trailer for an upcoming adventure, or to learn about any of our RVs or other products for Bossier City clients, speak to our team at Campers RV Center today.
